Description of Farmhouse in Poitou Charentes:
Spacious, well-equipped farmhouse inbeautiful, rolling countryside. Large, private, heated pool with 200m2 sun terrace. Loads for children to do...
Featured in LIVING FRANCE MAGAZINE - Deep in the Deux-Sèvres countryside, surrounded by fields, trees and hardly a neighbour in sight, Saumort has been described as a 'little piece of heaven' {II}. The tranquility of Saumort is perfect for a relaxing holiday but there are also plenty of things to do here. We have a 'children's farm' to delight your family, there is also horse riding on site, a games room and a children's play area, we can arrange for you to play golf at a local course, can provide you with walking/cycling routes or why not go fishing at the premier fishing centre in Europe, Pescalis.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our beautiful, old farm is situated in the Deux-Sèvres department which, along with the Charente, Charente-Maritime and Vienne departments, lies within the Poitou Charentes region. We receive more than 2250 hours of sunshine per year and are also fortunate enough to be close to the border with the beautiful Vendée department and so inherit much of the rolling hills and spectacular countryside from there.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The spacious farmhouse is situated well away from the road making it both safe and private. You will have exclusive use of the large swimming pool which has an excellent pool heating system (see later). The house is fully centrally heated making Saumort a great destination for holidays all year round.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All the rooms in the farmhouse are spacious and well equipped. Constructed in classic French style the walls are thick and the windows are quite small. This has the obvious advantage of keeping the house cool in the Summer (thank goodness!) and in the Winter the house is centrally heated keeping the temperature right all year round.

There is a large, fully fitted farmhouse kitchen with a cooker, hob, full size fridge, double sinks and a separate freezer. There is also a microwave, a dishwasher and a washing machine. Cutlery, plates and cooking/cleaning utensils are all provided.

The living room is another, typically french, spacious room with a beautiful beamed ceiling. There is a dining table to seat 10 people and plenty of comfortable seating for conversation, relaxation or a snooze! There is a CD juke box and computer with internet access, mail and fax. Optional satellite TV, DVD player, video recorder and XBox console (with games) can also be provided free of charge.

Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms and a triple bedroom with single bed and bunk beds. Downstairs, is a second triple bedroom. All rooms are equipped with a wardrobe, shelving, full length mirror and vanity table. All bed linen and towels (except pool towels) are provided free of charge.

Upstairs, you will find a bathroom with toilet, shower and washbasin. Downstairs, there is another shower room (with shower and washbasin) and a separate toilet. And don't forget there are two solar heated showers in the pool area for emergencies!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The swimming pool and terrace area has been described as an 'oasis'. Set behind the house and enclosed on all four sides, the area receives full sunshine almost all day long yet you can relax and swim in complete privacy.

The figure of eight shaped pool is 12m x 5.5m and has a 'roman end' with steps into the water, making entry and exit easy for our older guests and providing an important safety feature for children.

The pool is surrounded by nearly 200m2 of non-slip terrace with plenty of sun loungers and parasols.

The water in the pool is heated by our autofed, wood-burning boiler which GUARANTEES you an optimum temperature regardless of the weather (unlike other pool heating systems e.g solar panels).

There is also a covered barbecue area with table and chairs, so you can eat outside as often as you like. Automatic sensors turn on the lighting for the pool area as dusk falls so you can enjoy the tranquility with a bottle (or three!) of wine as long as you like.

Just next to the barbeque area is a sand boule court. Boule and palet are both provided, and the area is well lit, so all you need is a good supply of wine (and a sense of humour) for those late night competitions!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have a large, floodlit games barn (18m x 6m) for your (and especially your children's) entertainment. There is a table tennis table, a basket ball net, a safety darts board or why not knock around a football or play softball in there? There is also a selection of games, jigsaws and packs of cards in the gite and, don't forget you can borrow our x-box games for free too.

Your children will love our mini farm. We have a selection of animals who you are more than welcome to get to know during your stay at Saumort. Collect fresh eggs from the chickens & ducks, feed the goats, teach the pigs a new trick (they can 'sit' & 'turn around'!). Throw a ball for the dogs or lead a pony.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are interested in horse riding we have a small selection of well trained and well loved horses who would love to show you around the local countryside. Rides can be arranged to fit in with your holiday.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our region is blessed with an exceptional number of sunshine hours per year (over 2250). It is the sunniest region in Western France. Winter is mild and the mimosas flower as early as January; Spring comes early (and is beautiful) and, whilst Summer naturally sees most tourist activity, Autumn is still warm enough for the calmer main holiday.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The coast of the Poitou Charentes is one of the most popular with French holidaymakers, known for its long stretches of fine sand and good weather. The famous coastal town of La Rochelle is located just an hour away in the Charente Maritime department. The old harbour and three medieval towers symbolise the port's rich history; there are lively quayside markets, trendy bars and excellent restaurants. Take a guided tour in a horse-drawn carriage, a boat trip to Fort Boyard or visit the fascinating aquarium. The idyllic beaches of the Ile de Re (some 30km worth) are also within easy reach and the island is well worth a day's visit in its own right.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The area is perfect for walking, riding and cycling. The countryside is made up of rolling hills divided up into a patchwork quilt of sunflower and corn fields interspersed with fields containing cows and goats. The marais poitevin (or Green Venice) is a fascinating maze of rivers, dykes and tree-shaded canals which thread between meadows and fields. They cover an area of 230,000 acres from Niort and Fontenay-Le-Comte to the Atlantic ocean. The best way to explore is by boat, either with or without a guide. Visit, also, the Poitou donkey park at Dampierre-sur-Boutonne and marvel at this special breed of dreadlocked donkey!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Futuroscope, in Poitiers, is a collection of simulated visual spectacles, ranging from a white knuckle ride to journeys of dicovery in 3D to a magic carpet to a ride in a Formula 1 car. Puy du Fou is a huge medieval theme park with fascinating displays during both the day and the night. Marvel at the beautiful birds of prey, gasp at the stunt riders and take a step back in time in the vast roman stadium.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The region's history could have been lifted from an adventure story book: visit medieval fortresses, roman churches, renaissance chateaus, protestant temples, grand abbeys, ramparts, fortifications and dungeons. Accross the region stand some 600 beautiful examples of the Romanesque sanctuary, a heritage which began around the 10th century with techniques born of the Christian Roman Empire.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The food of the region is simple and rustic, the food of peasants, but created from the wonderful local vegetables, fruits, dairy produce and fish. The markets of the region are colourful and extremely interesting, there is no better place to buy your provisions; lamb, beef or seafood, melons from Haut-Poitou or vegetables from the coast.
