Our Commune Our gites are located in a very small hamlet called Fresneau which is part of the commune of Haimps. Haimps is where the Mairie/Village Hall and church are situated and has a free Tennis Court available to Gite guests. There is also quite a large park, a 5 minute stroll away, with boules court, play park for small children, seating and picnic areas. Matha is the nearest small town and is a 5 mins drive away. The Petit Chateau is a site where brocantes/antique fairs are held. Regular weekly market days are held for local produce. Matha has 4 supermarkets and assorted local shops. For dining there are a number of restaurants available including Le National Bar Restaurant and Pinocchio's for Traditional cuisine and Pizzeria. There is a large brocante for those who like to enjoy a rummage. Matha has a comprehensive Tourist Information Centres and one of the best in the area. Thors is a 10 minute drive away and offers a lake for bathing and pedalos, along with a restaurant. Picnic and Boules areas plus Mini Golf is also available. Days Out: Here is just a selection of places to visit and enjoy St. Jean D'Angely. A typical French town with a fine Abbey assorted shops and good Saturday market. For teenagers and young at heart adults there is Go-Karting. Rouillac Hosts an enormous outdoor market threading through the streets of Rouillac which occurs on 27th of each month. Cognac The home of the famous drink housing many of the Cognac Distilleries who offer a number of excursions including river trips on the Charente. Distilleries include Hennessy, Otard and Remy Martin. Angouleme An historical walled city set high on the hill-top. Includes many festivals including Rally de Ramparts, Food and Wine Festival and Art / Comic Festival. Saintes A Roman site includes a large Amphitheatre, Arc de Triomphe and Church. Pons A fine small town that hosts a medeaval hospital and gardens. La Rochelle A harbour boasting fine restaurants and shops. Access to Ile de Re and Ile d'Orelon. From the courtyard through the garden gate there is access to the swimming pool and surrounding grounds. There is a playing field adjacent to the swimming pool for families to play or for Mum and Dad to relax around the pool while their children play close by. Beach towels can be provided and assorted pool games are also available. Sit on the gravel terrace adjacent to the pool area in the cool shade next to the hanging vines, whilst sampling some French wine. Barbeques are provided for dining on the pool terrace or by your gite. We also have Table Tennis and Boules is always fun played around the courtyard. Beyond the playing field we have a small orchard where guests are welcome to help themselves, fruit trees include fig, walnut, cherry and apple.
